Outdoor Porch Swing

By admin | Mar 9, 2010

An outdoor porch swing is a luxury that many homes can easily afford. However, there are a few things that you should keep in mind if you are interested in purchasing an outdoor porch swing. First, will you want your swing to remain outdoors all year long? There are two primary types of swings, permanent and temporary. If you are not certain, there are a few things that you can ask yourself to help you make a decision. Do you have space in your garage to store a swing? Temporary outdoor porch swings need to be keep indoors during the winter and heavy rain seasons so that the cushions and fabric do not get damaged. Do you want a framed swing or a hanging swing? The average hanging swing attaches directly to the overhang of your home. This style of swing is at higher risk of falling, which is why many people are preferring temporary or ground mounted outdoor porch swings.

A temporary outdoor porch swing solves many of the safety concerns of the stereotypical porch swing. By using a sturdy frame, they are at a lower risk of collapse than swings that hang from overhangs over your porch. If you like the concept of the temporary porch swing, but wish to have a permanent outdoor porch swing, it is possible to acquire a permanent swing that bolts into the floor of your porch but uses the same frames of the temporary swings.

A framed outdoor porch swing is typically mounted on metal hooks or bolts on a moving rod. While they can be overturned, they must be done so intentionally, unlike older permanent structures that are just bolted into the overhang of your porch. If they are bolted into the porch, the chance of them being tilted is extremely slim.

When you go to purchase an outdoor porch swing, there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind. First, will you want a cushioned seat? Most outdoor porch swings do not have cushions unless they are designed to be brought indoors during the winter and rainy seasons. While you can acquire them, it is often better to purchase and use your own removable cushions. This will ensure that you have all of the comfort you need without the need to move your outdoor porch swing.

If you do purchase a permanent outdoor porch swing, make certain that you maintain your swing and check all moving parts for signs of rust and corrosion.
